This 345-acre park is located along the Turkey River on the east side of Elgin. It offers: canoe access; paved 1/4 mile handicapped accessible trail; playground; shelter house; primitive and modern camping with dump station, sinks, showers, flush toilets, and 28 electrical hook-up sites, over 5 miles of trails for hiking, non-motorized bikes, horseback riding, and in winter, cross-country skiing; petting zoo (May 28 -Labor Day); and 2 visitor centers. The Gilbertson Nature Center features interpretive and educational displays about NE Iowa and the Conner Dummermuth Historical Building includes farm and home antiques and memorabilia. There is also the early 1900s Hart Dumermuth Historic House. The Gilbertson sites are open Wed. - Sunday from 11-7 (exception - open July 3-4, not 5-6)
